LIFE ON PAPER

I am a humble company comprised of handmade art in paperie, design and fine stationery. A portion of every transaction is donated.

As a little heads up, I don’t have a filter on my mouth and don’t intend to run my website that way either.  Nothing will be obscene,  but I have a sick sense of humor that’s all in good fun and just plain say what’s on my mind.  I like to share interesting things with my viewers so you will find random things all over.

welcome...

CONGRATULATIONS HANNAH & RYAN!!

I was commissioned and privileged to work on this wedding as the stationer from top to bottom.  This was the most advantageous project I’ve had to date.  I was elated with work!

This one goes up in the history as one of my many favorites.  It had so much character at every turn.  I amped that up when I could, adding personal family elements in the details.  There’s also a lot of hard work from top to bottom, that makes me partial to certain projects.

Private classes and parties

connect class 16 SNAP Event

A project group of the current Connect class held an event called SNAP - Special Needs Awareness Party! last Saturday at the VBC.

I volunteered to shoot the event along with a colleague Mark from the Leadership class.  We showed up with our bangin cameras to capture the smiles of all these children having a blast with balloon animals, food, in-house moon bounces, basketball goals, soccer, hoola hoops and GOBS of trophies to win!!

They had vendors from all over supporting special needs and connecting them with resources.  There were over $9,000 in prizes given out through raffles!!!!

What an honor to support!!

A class is a great way to be crafty without actually having to BE CRAFTY!  I have all the tools and equipment to make your own cards in a small timeframe that are ready to be mailed when you leave the studio.  The gift can suck and the card wont ;D  I’d had couples come in together for an intimate bonding time and a girls party with wine, laughter and tapas.  I’m also not limited to greeting cards or minimal number of students, gimme some heads up on your desired event and we can make a special project!  email me at any time dominique@colorhousedesigns.com.

Green Pea Press

Fundraising Calendar of 2014!

I was honored when asked to contribute to the 2014 fundraising calendar for the Green Pea Press!

I tried to challenge myself in the first calendar and got into the weeds LOL this time I wanted to contribute paper without physically contributing like last time.  However my greatest weakness is drawing!!!!  PORRRRRRQUAY!! (dramatically yelling with my arms reaching to the sky like a Mexican soap opera).

So I drew a mobile onto a piece of linoleum, cut it out and used it like a stamp with the letterpress machine.... I WAS EXCITED!! of course I made it with GLITTER!

So it still appears to look like paper - flat, untextured, etc.  Pretty much how I think paper appears to most.  I like that I was still able to incorporate my passion of paper even through drawing.  I met my challenge even if no one likes it LOL  Follow the website below to see the final print (limited edition of 80) with the dates of March hand set with vintage type printed on the 100 year old letterpress.....oooooh, I’m so excited and nerding IT UP right now LOL

You can order your copy as well as see the other artists’ months at the Pea’s website here

It’s WEDDING SEASON!!

One of my favorite things about wedding season is seeing what the brides imagine and put together for their perfect day.  They come up with the most creative and beautiful things...I’m humbled, what do they need me for??  :D

This year I’ve really gotten to work on more calligraphy and THRILLED it’s coming back!!

ALL types of colors and pen styles to choose from.  Modern calligraphy is very challenging, there’s no set rules and it sometimes takes multiple pens and brushes (yes, I said brushes) to achieve the right look or font.  This is the one I’ve currently taught myself.

The black one is the first one I taught myself.  The second one allowed the basics of the first but a little more liberty in variances and orientation.

Both are hand-dipped pen nibs into waterproof ink (so your expensive art doesn’t get ruined because of the taxing environment of our postal system or rain).

I pride myself in learning almost any font and very affordable prices.  Come on, why can’t Huntsville have this luxury too!!!
